I had an email rejected because of SPF?  What is that?

Many, if not most spam e-mail messages use fake sender addresses.  The SPF or Sender Policy Framework is a method of preventing this address forgery.  It functions through two separate actions.  The first is that a legitimate domain publishes what email servers it uses to send email in a SPF record in their DNS.  The second part
is the receiving server checks the SPF record for a domain when it receives an email.  If the email originates from a server listed in the SPF record then it is accepted.  If the email originates from a different server than those listed, it is rejected.
