Jonathan,

I saw the boot camp videos in your blog?  What made you put them up?

I like military history and I was in the Army.  I got to work with some Air Force and Marine personnel.  Each of them make claims about how hard Boot camp was.

I don't think any of them are necessarily easy, but as for hardest, that would have to be the Marine Corps.  I have a nephew who was a Marine and I went and watched him graduate at Parris Island and I don't believe any of the other services come close.  When I went through Army boot camp I thought it was tough, but watching those recruits down there was something.  They put more stress on those recruits than I had put on me in boot camp.

I was in the army as well and I didn't think boot camp was a cake walk.  I also had the "pleasure", and I am saying it sarcastically, of working with some Marines.  They were arrogant and condescending towards the soldiers.  But to be fair, they were some of the most disciplined troops I ever saw.

I saw this quote by Eleanor Roosevelt

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

Does this describe them well?

That is a famous quote about the Marines.  Everyone has an opinion about which is the hardest boot camp.  Here some facts.  The Marines have the longest boot camp, the Air Force the shortest.  If a Marine joins another military branch they don't go through boot camp again. Anyone joining from another branch goes through Marine boot camp. The Marine Corps PFT is hardest PFT of any branch.  The Marines have the highest rate of recruits who don't make it through boot camp.

I won't debate about which one is harder, but I will say that the Marines love that title Marine and you are going to earn it.  They don't just give it away.  However, having been in the Army, I am proud I was a soldier and all who have served in the Military should be proud.

You seem to be implying the Marines are somewhat fanatical?
